Choosing a tour in Chachapoyas offers a unique combination of cultural and historical richness, natural beauty and adventure.
Visiting the Kuelap Fortress and the Revash Mausoleums allows a deep immersion into the ancient Chachapoyas civilization, whilst the Gocta Waterfall and the Quiocta Cavern offer stunning landscapes and trekking experiences.
Day 1: Kuelap Fortress + Cable Cars
At 9:30am we will pick you up from your hotel and then head on a tour bus for about an hour to visit the Macro Archaeological Site.
Afterwards, we will continue for 8 minutes until we reach the Telecabinas boarding station. From there, we will take a bus for 10 minutes to the departure platform to board the Cable Cars, with a 25-minute journey across the valley to the exit platform. From this point, we will walk about 20 minutes to the pre-Inca Archaeological Site of Kuelap.
Within the site, you will have the opportunity to admire more than 500 circular constructions, among which the “Templo Mayor” and “El Torreón” stand out, some of which are decorated with rhomboidal friezes and stylized figures.
After exploring Kuelap, we will return to the Cable Cars and return to the town of Tingo, where we will enjoy lunch. Finally, we will begin the trip back to the city of Chachapoyas.
Day 2: Gocta Waterfall
At 9:30 am we begin our one-hour trip from Chachapoyas to the community of Cocachimba. Around 10:30 am we begin the journey to the waterfall, which can be done on foot or on horseback, with an average duration of two hours. During the journey, we will observe local agricultural activity and walk through the dense vegetation typical of the cloud forest, habitat of the cock-of-the-rock and other birds. We find giant trees, liana vines, palm trees, orchids, ferns and bromeliads.
Upon reaching the base of the waterfall, we will have free time to take photographs and enjoy the surroundings. Afterwhich, we will return to the community of Cocachimba for lunch and finally we return to the city of Chachapoyas for the night.
Day 3: Revash Mausoleums + Leymebamba Museum
We will start the tour from Chachapoyas at 8:00 a.m. The car travel will take approximately 2 hours. Upon reaching the town of San Bartolo, you will begin a walk of about thirty minutes along a cobblestone path with views of the crops and livestock in the area. You will finally arrive at the Revash Mausoleums, where our guide will provide you with a detailed explanation about the funerary traditions of the Chachapoyas culture.
Once the visit to the Mausoleums is over, you will return to the vehicle and continue the trip to Leymebamba, where lunch will be served. After enjoying lunch, we will move to the Museum – Mallqui Center, where you will have enough time to appreciate remains of pre-Hispanic materials such as ceramics, textiles, quipus and mummies, and learn more about the Chachapoyas culture. At the end of our visit, we will begin the return trip to the city of Chachapoyas.
Day 4: Karajía + Quiocta Caverns
We will travel 1 hour to the community of Lamud, where we will make a 30-minute stop at a restaurant for lunch, we continue our trip for 30 minutes to the Quiocta Cave, the first illuminated cave in Peru. Considered a ceremonial center and cemetery of the Chachapoyas culture, inside we will find limestone formations such as stalactites and stalagmites.
After lunch we will head to the town of Cruz Pata, we will walk 25 minutes and visit the Karajia Sarcophagi, the grandest funerary expression of the Chachapoyas culture. After the visit we will return to the city of Chachapoyas.
