Chachapoyas 5 Days 4 Nights Via Jaen
This tourist program is specifically designed for travelers who only have 5 days available. With this itinerary you can discover the most important tourist attractions in the Amazonas region: Kuelap, with its amazing cable car ride, the impressive Gocta waterfall, the sarcophagi of Karajia, and the mysterious cave of Quiocta. A perfect combination of experiencing the natural landscape and the ancient culture of the Chachapoyas.
Day 1: Reception at the Airport of Jaen and transfer to Chachapoyas
Pick up at the Jaen airport. We begin our trip, that takes 4 hours, in a tour van driving directly to the city of Chachapoyas, during our trajectory we can enjoy the impressive Amazonian landscapes, even crossing the intrepid Marañon river via bridge, to finally reach the hotel within the city of Chachapoyas in the Amazonian Andes. The entire evening you will have free to enjoy the city’s sights.
Day 2: Tour to the impressive Archaeological Site of Kuelap
At 9:00 AM we begin our tour to the impressive citadel of Kuelap, we will ride for 1 hour in a tour van through the Utcubamba valley to the village of Tingo, during which we will have a short pause to see the archaeological site of Macro. After the tour guide explains Macro, we will proceed to a restaurant in Tingo to first reserve our lunches which will be eaten after coming back from the tour of Kuelap.
The cable car ride up to Kuelap takes 30 minutes and after exiting the cable car we will walk for 20 minutes directly to the complex of Kuelap. We will have 3 hours to walk through the whole complex while accompanied by a professional tour guide who will explain everything you want to know about the prehispanic Chachapoyas culture. After our visit to Kuelap we return to the cable car to come down the mountain and have our lunches at the restaurant in Tingo. Transfer to the city of Chachapoyas.
Day 3: Tour to the Gocta Waterfall
At 9:00 AM we start our trip in a 1 hour ride in a tour van to the village of Cocachimba where we will begin our excursion towards the Gocta waterfall, walking 2 hours (6 kilometers) along a path through sugarcane farms and coffee plantations, to reach the cloud forest that surrounds the impressive Gocta waterfall, with a height of more than 771 meters. During our excursion we can encounter types of birds such as the cock-of-the-rock and toucanet, as well as a great diversity of plants, such as endemic orchids. After visiting the waterfall we will walk back along the same path to the village of Cocachimba and have lunch there. Transfer to Chachapoyas.
Day 4: Tours to the Sarcophagi of Karajia and the Cave of Quiocta
At 8:30 AM we begin our tours with a 1 hour ride in a tour van to the village of Lamud. Once in Lamud we will stop there for 30 minutes in order to reserve our lunches in advance at a touristic restaurant there which will be eaten on the way back.
We continue our trip riding for 30 minutes more until reaching the Cave of Quiocta, a ceremonial and funerary site of the Chachapoyas culture. In the interior of the cave you will encounter stalactites and stalagmites. After the tour of the cave we will return to Lamud to have our lunches. We will then proceed to the village of Cruzpata (a 1 hour drive from Lamud), where from which we will walk for 25 minutes to reach the Sarcophagi of Karajia, another funerary site and one of the most iconic of the Chachapoyas culture. Afterwards we will return to the city of Chachapoyas.
Day 5: Transfer to the Jaen Airport
After breakfast we start our transfer in a tour van from Chachapoyas, in a 4 hour ride, to the airport of Jaen.
